The Swissentrepreneur mailing list was created in March 2008 due to a disagreement about the public availability of the existing list at Yahoogroups. A number of members felt that the Yahoogroups list archives being public and e.g. indexed by Google, was a problem and prevented many topics from being discussed more openly.
Public vs. non-public
The publicly accessible list archives at Yahoogroups can be found here. They are indexed by Google and other search-engines, which means everyone has very easy access to anything being discussed. For instance, do a google search for "Josta Vencken", and the one of the first 10 results is a direct link to one of Jostas postings to the group.
One of the thing that many people do is subscribe to Google Alerts, a very useful tool. However, sometime last year when I posted a comment on an email marketing company receiving venture funding, I had a lengthy off-line email-exchange with the CEO of that company - something I could well have done without, and almost certainly caused by a Google alert reporting my posting.
That's one reason why I think we need a less public forum, and why I created a new mailing list.

As I already had a working mail-server and mailing list setup, setting up a mailing list tied to the Swissentrepreneur website (and keeping the archives accessible only by subscribed members) was not much effort.
And no, there's special importance of the banner image of the Claas harvester. It's just the late summer view from the back of my office.
Please note - this mailing list is no longer really active. The access policy for the yahoo group was changed, which means more sensitive topics can now also be discussed there.
